Moving to Erin Mills Mississauga: A complete neighbourhood guide

Located on the western edge of Mississauga, Erin Mills is a peaceful residential neighbourhood that is a perfect landing spot for families. Erin Mills is known for its rolling hills, giving the neighbourhood a unique topographical feel compared to other neighbourhoods in eastern Mississauga and Toronto. While the majority of Erin Mills is residential space, there are also plenty of shopping and recreation options that can keep the entire family entertained.

Erin Mills has an eclectic mix of homes that include ranch-style bungalows, large modern custom homes, townhouses, semi-detached, and fully detached houses. According to Storwell’s guide for moving to Mississauga, the average cost of a two-bedroom detached house in Streetsville- a neighbourhood directly adjacent to Erin Mills- is around $1.2 million. Most of the residential area is made up of houses, but there are some low-rise and high-rise apartment buildings along the arterial streets. New development in Erin Mills

Erin Mills is an area that is constantly growing and expanding in order to create a better living experience for its residents. Right now, there is a massive commercial development underway on the south west corner of Eglington Avenue West and Ridgeway Drive that will eventually become the Erin Mills Business Park. This 200,000 square foot piece of land will be home to dozens of stores and companies that will stimulate the economy of Erin Mills.

Another large development project is happening on Ninth Line, across the street from McCarron Park. This will be the spot for the new Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Sports Park, which will be a state-of-the-art facility for all Erin Mills residents. The building will feature a six-lane pool and triple gymnasium and the park will include tournament-level sports fields, a playground, and outdoor fitness equipment.

Where is Erin Mills?

Erin Mills sits between Ninth Line and Mississauga Road with Dundas Street West acting as its southern boundary and Britannia Road acting as its northern boundary. The neighbourhood has great access to transportation options as it is just minutes away from Highway 407, Highway 403, and the Queen Elizabeth Expressway. This allows Erin Mills residents to go in and out of the city center with ease.

A brief history of Erin Mills

The Erin Mills area was primarily farmland for many years, until the late 1960s when wealthy Canadian entrepreneur E.P. Taylor chose the hilly pastoral area as the spot for his new residential development. Taylor’s subsidiary company, Don Mills Development Corp. started development on the new town of Erin Mills in 1969. The neighbourhood would be constructed in phases from the 1970s all the way through to the 2010s, and new development is still ongoing in Erin Mills to this day.

Tips for moving to Erin Mills

Erin Mills has become one of the most popular new neighbourhoods in Mississauga, especially for families that value the area’s natural beauty and want to get away from the chaotic hustle and bustle of a large city.

If you are looking to move to Erin Mills but need to sell your current house first, you should be staging your home to make it more appealing to potential buyers. Home staging often requires you removing some pieces of furniture from your home to help with clutter and improve the overall flow of the house. Self-storage is an invaluable tool when home staging.

Currently, there is an exclusive offer at Storwell Self Storage for my clients of 4 weeks of free storage for home staging. Storwell has locations in Scarborough, Etobicoke and one location in Mississauga, which is just a short drive south of Erin Mills. If you need storage for home staging, you can call or visit a Storwell Facility in person to demo a unit.

Shopping in Erin Mills

Erin Mills’ main shopping and commercial hub is the Erin Mills Town Centre, located on Eglinton Avenue West and Erin Mills Parkway. This is the second largest shopping mall in Mississauga, only behind Square One. In 2013, the mall went through a major renovation where a new courtyard was constructed, and the food court was completely overhauled. The mall has over 200 stores that sell everything from high-end designer clothes to all-natural health supplements.

If you travel just a few minutes south of the Erin Mills Town Centre to Fowler Drive, you will find another great shopping option at the Sheridan Centre, which has nearly a hundred different stores and food options.
